Macao Cultural Centre launched 2010’s Art-in-Residence project "A Script Comes to Life" conducted in Cantonese, to boost up local scriptwriting.
Nowadays, most of the local devised play scripts have been translated from international existing texts or produced throughout collective creation and this work-in-progress project will make a difference, since it will focus on original texts written in Macao. Throughout one year, the participants will learn how to write a high-quality script, which will enhance local creation and improve the writing skills of our inspired writers. In the end, the script may be chosen to be onstage!
The project is divided into three phases, and will count with the participation of professional playwrights from Hong Kong. In the first phase, from March to May, we will have the workshop “Learn from the Classics? by Dominic Cheung, in which the participants will learn the basics of the scrip writing, studying renowned texts, its characters and dialogues and the story line itself. On the second phase, the workshop “Write a Short Script? by Karley Ng, will take place from June to July, in which the participants will write a 30 to 45 minutes short script. In the third and last phase, running from September to November 2010, it will be “Time for a Full Length Script? by Cancer Chong, and will be dedicated to the development of a full-length script. The best short and full-length script might have the possibility to be presented in the coming seasons.
The new Art-in-Residence project will set off an inspired marathon! Bright new plays written in Macao by our folks will be ready to shine!
