Cineastas por todo o mundo recorrem a salões de beleza em busca de locais de diálogo íntimo para mulheres de cidades complexas e em mudança. A recém-chegada realizadora libanesa Nadine Labaki renova esta mise-en-scene na exploração que faz das vozes e problemas das mulheres multiculturais na Beirute dos nossos dias. Neste espaço de mulheres, muçulmanas e cristãs de origens diversas confrontam questões de sexo, idade, casamento, felicidade e as suas relações com os homens. Um filme que derruba tabus, e oferece um relance emotivo, humano e até humorístico sobre esta cosmopolita cidade árabe em transição.

Filmmakers worldwide have turned to beauty salons as places of intimate dialogue for the women of complex and changing cities. Lebanese newcomer Nadine Labaki renews this mise-en-scene in her exploration of the voices and issues of multicultural women in modern day Beirut. In this women’s space, Muslims and Christians of varied backgrounds confront issues of sex, aging, marriage, happiness and their relations with men. A film that breaks taboos, offering a warm, human, and even humorous glimpse of this cosmopolitan Arab city in transition.
