A primeira película de Goei, desde a sua breve incursão singapuriana em Febre de Sábado à Noite, é, ao mesmo tempo, um mistério tipo Agatha Christie e um superdrama, na medida em que o próprio morto tenta descobrir a verdade para além da morte. Na acção, que decorre num único local, a mansão de família, a fotografia e design de Goei conseguem transmitir com elegância o ambiente de podridão reinante no seio familiar e na própria Singapura. Glen Goei’s black comedy is about the petty rivalries, resentments and deep dark secrets that come into the light when the patriarch of a wealthy family suddenly dies. The first film by Goei since his Singaporean spin on Saturday Night Fever is by turns Agatha Christie-esque mystery and arch drama as the dead man himself attempts to uncover the truth from beyond the grave. Unfolding in a single location, the family mansion, Goei’s design and photography gracefully relay the atmosphere of rot inside both the family and Singapore itself.

劇本、演出、剪接皆優秀，攝影尤其匠心獨運。故事集中在藍色大宅發生，有劇場味道。前半段是兒女的勾心鬥角，後半段則是警察調查老父死因的偵探故事；葬禮點出了新加坡華洋雜處的水火不容。
