MOMIX "Alice"
Hopping into a familiar unknown
It’s high time to slide down the rabbit hole, diving into a spiral of inventiveness and mystery. Alice is an acrobatic dance theatre based on Lewis Carroll’s widely popular wonderland adventures.
Blending physical beauty with prowess, this fantasy is retold by MOMIX, a Washington-based alternative dance company that has been dazzling sell-out crowds since the early 1980’s. Led by choreographer Moses Pendleton, the company returns to Macao this Christmas, some 20 years after it brought us Opus-Cactus, a fantastic desert inspired production. On this less spiky but equally exciting galore of popular characters, they packed plenty of magic and inspiration, bringing in a multi-artistic frenzy of giant balls, suspended props, gorgeous imagery and special effects. Loosely based on Carrol’s classic, Pendleton recreates the tale through a kind of crazy, eccentric logic, letting imagination run wild, fuelled by adrenaline spells.
Triggered by a mesmerizing mix of lighting and music, this highly skilful group of dancers transform themselves into illusionists, luring performing arts lovers into Alice’s dizzying universes. Lingering in a discovery ride, the audience won’t resist to hop in a stream of incredible new realities, a sensorial explosion that will make us forget, even if briefly, all the cares in the world!
